Wednesday, Oct 1st - We bought a car!!

Another busy week drawing close to an end. We didn't do much after school on Sunday; basically just skyped with friends and family. On Monday, we went to the Honda dealer to test drive a Daihatsu 4 X 4. It looked good from the outside but turned out to be a piece of crap once you started driving it. We went back on Tuesday to test drive a Honda City, which seems to be just a notch below the Civic that we have in North America. That one, we liked a lot. It's a 2013 with less than 30 000 Km, with still 25 months of warranty on it (it was a company car). We pretty much decided that it is that kind of car that we are looking for: fairly new, buying from a dealer, with warranty, for piece of mind and financing as we don't have to pay the whole thing cash as would be the case if we bought from a private individual. After that, we went out with friends to the Crowne Plaza for Quiz night - it's teams participating in a trivial pursuit game, with beer! It was OK but Jacqui and I were pretty useless as a lot of the questions were based on the UK. But it was an outing and it was nice. On Wednesday, after school, we went back to the Honda dealer and bought that white Honda City. We can't get the car yet as we still need a salary certification from our employer, and cheques from the bank. These would normally not take too long, but with the Eid holiday next week (a religious holiday that lasts all week), everything will be closed for the whole week or most of it, so nothing will happen. Therefore, we are hoping to get the car by mid October, Insha'allah! We then went out to Trader Vics for a nice meal, and then came back home and crashed, looking forward to finishing our last day of school tomorrow before getting a week off!!!

  1. Congratulations Jacqui and Richard! How exciting to have wheels for exploring. I can imagine the frustration you felt trying to find your friend's hotel...it really is a different place to live! I had a feeling the Crowne Plaza would become a popular destination...and so nice and close to the beach! Thinking of you in the sun and sand while we welcome (reluctantly) the Fall rains and the inevitable winter =). Sending big hugs,
    Sandy

  2. That is why I always tell my friends they have to test drive a few cars before choosing the one they think they are in love with. Had I not test drove the Honda City I would have never fallen in love with the best vehicle I ever bought. This car has gotten me through all types of road conditions without trouble.
