Thursday, June 8th - Final post from the Middle East

Four more days left in the Middle East, then back to Canada for a few weeks then off to Thailand. It has already been four years since we started this teaching abroad adventure. We must admit that it has been a great experience. We definitely miss our family and friends from home, and the gatherings on special occasions, but what we have seen and done in that time has been pretty amazing (which is why we keep going!). We really, really enjoyed our stay in Oman. It will be hard to leave but we know that new adventures await us in Bangkok. We worked with wonderful people at school and always enjoyed the beauty and serenity of Oman. We have said it many times, but it is a beautiful country, with great people living here.

But now, it's time to get ready to go. Packing our belongings will not take long as we do not have much (pretty much just clothing). We have all the required paperwork to get ready to leave the country, as our employer must now cancel our work visas. We need a letter from the bank that says that we do not owe any money (loans or credit cards), proof that electricity and water bills are paid, that equipement from school has (or will be) returned, and that apartment keys and health cards will be handed in before departure.

We are finishing school on Monday, June 12th and fly out that same evening, at 11:50 pm. A short flight to Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways, than a long flight to Toronto, scheduled to arrive at 9 am on Tuesday morning. From there, things get hectic again, Appointments with doctors, dentists, eye doctor, specialist and trips to Ottawa, Chatham, Windsor will keep us busy for some time. It will however be very nice to see our children, family and a lot of friends during those 4 + weeks that we are home.

We hope to see you soon

Ma'salama Oman!
