Thursday, January 19th - We are moving to Bangkok!!!

Our Christmas holidays were great, but very busy. We spent time with our children (Dave now counts as one of our children!) and Jacqui's family and we also managed to see a few friends. January 2nd came way to fast, but we had to get back to Oman so we boarded a plane that night to be back in Muscat at about 1am on the 4th, so we could be at work by 8am on the same day. It was, needless to say, very productive!

Three days later, on the 7th, we flew to Bangkok for a job fair. It was held at the same hotel that we had gone to in September; what are the odds? It was quite impressive to see all the different schools (about 150 of them) and all the participants (600 ish) looking for interviews and jobs. We spent the week in Bangkok as we couldn't get back before Thursday pm (the fair went until Wednesday pm), so we figured we might as well spend the rest of the week. We had some interviews and Jacqui was able to secure a job at Ruamrudee International School, in Bangkok. The fact that the job fair was in the same city was great, as we were able to visit the school on the Thursday and visit neighbourhoods where we can potentially live for the next few years. The school is a real school, with 2 librairies, a triple gym, tennis courts, 2 swimming pools (one olympic size), a catholic church (in a predominently muslin neighbourhood in a buddhist country!). Everyone that we met was so friendly! Jacqui will be replacing a young teacher that graduated from Laurier University! Isn't that ironic? We are so looking forward to moving and working there. I don't have a job yet but I will substitute and tutor at the start of the year until I get a position somewhere. At worst, I play "retired"!!!!

We got back to Muscat on Saturday afternoon (1 pm) and from there, tried to get back in a normal routine. Went grocery shopping, came home and basically went to bed! We were still jet lagged and our bodies did not know in which time zones they were! Sunday was back to school, except I wasn't at school that day as I had to attend a workshop somewhere in Muscat. It ended up being a very long time since both Jacqui and I had been teaching; I had gone 47 days since the last time I saw my grade 10 students in a classroom. That's insane!

School is the same; there is still some shit going on but nothing that anyone cannot handle. So every thing is fine and we are looking forward to a quiet weekend.
