November 6th: We left San Francisco around 11 am and drove down to Santa Cruz, where we had lunch. We then got back in the car to drive down to Seaside, close to Monterey/Carmel by the Sea. The scenic drive on Highway 1, along the coast, is so picturesque. A "must drive" if you are in that part of the world.
November 7th: We went for the "
17 Mile Drive", which took more than three hours to do because we stopped at all the scenic spots on the map (actually we only stopped at 15 of them, the last one being Pebble Beach Golf Club). The 17 Mile Drive is a drive around Pebble Beach and the Monterey Peninsula. It is absolutely gorgeous! Later that day, we went to
Cannery Row (which used to house sardine canning factories) for dinner; it was quie interesting to see.
November 8th: We kept driving down Highway 1, along the ocean, to Big Sur, stopping at Bixby bridge for a few pictures and finally to San Luis Obispo (SLO). Again, the scenery was quite impressive! We were driving along mountains and along the water; there weren't too many straight streches on the highway! We thought of going to the night market in SLO but were kind of tired and decided to pass on it. The Airbnb we had rented had a hot tub in the back yard, so that was good enough for that evening!
November 9th: We went downtown SLO and did some wine tasting and beer tasting. It was a pretty quiet day, but quite enjoyable!
Saturday, November 10th: Julie and Dave drove us to where we had to pick up our rental car. From there, we drove both our SUV's to Bishop Peak to hike for a couple of hours. The views on the way up, and from the top, were very nice! After lunch downtown, we parted ways, Julie and Dave going back to San Francisco to get their Sunday morning flight, and Jacqui and I heading down south towards Los Angeles and San Diego!
