Easter weekend meant a three day weekend for Jacqui, so we decided to go to Hong Kong for the weekend. We left Thursday night and got to our hotel in Soho, on Hong Kong Island, at about midnight, after a two and a half hour flight from Bangkok.
On Friday, we walked to the waterfront then took a cab to Kennedy Town, as it had been recommended by one of Jacqui's colleague who worked in HK for 10 years (actually, all his recommendations were very good and much appreciated!). We had lunch in a small french restaurant; the food was really good! We then cabbed it back to the Central part of town and took the tram to go up to Victoria Peak. The view from the observatory was quite impressive. Hong Kong is a very beautiful city! Once back down, we went for a drink on a rooftop and had dinner in Soho, the neighbourhood where our hotel was located.
Saturday was hiking day. We hiked the Dragon's back trail for a little more than 2 hours. There were some beautiful views from the trail and we really enjoyed it. There were quite a few people on the trail; it was fairly busy! After the hike, we went to Shek O beach for lunch. It is a quaint little town with a very nice beach and a lot of tourists. We then made our way to Stanley, another cute little town on the water. After coming back to Central HK, we took a harbour cruise at night on a junk (an ancient Chinese sailing ship) to see the buildings of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, on the other side of the harbour, lit up. It was very nice and relaxing, just sitting back and admiring the view of buildings everywhere.
Sunday was spent walking around Soho and Central HK. There are so many nice little shops and restaurants, so many little streets with steps going up or down the mountain. We saw some nice street art, and a lot of nice cars! It was a very nice visit and we're glad we went. We must however say that HK is very expensive, and it probably feels even worse when you come from Thailand where everything is so cheap!
