Sunday, April 20th - Happy Easter to all, from London

Even though we are not with you, we want to wish everyone a Happy Easter. It's on occasions like this that this journey gets a little tougher. We do miss family and friends, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a small price to pay for everything that we are discovering, seeing and doing. But we still miss every one of you.

That being said, we had a very fun and weird day. Weird in the sense that we saw a whole lot of things that a regular tourist wouldn't see. First off, we changed hotels in the morning, since the one we were at on Saturday would have cost us more than $180 per night for the week, than the hotel we are now in. Once that was done, we decided to go visit North London, which is not really on the visitors' tourist list of things to do, but we are here for a week, so why not! We therefore took the tube (their metro system) and a bus and finally got off in a very Jewish neighbourhood (we did not know that). It was really weird. All the men were wearing some kind of circular fur hat, that was much larger than the size of their head (it looked as if you could set a plate on it), and since it was raining, they had plastic protectors over it. Everyone was dressed in black and white, with the men wearing the high white socks and the short pants. They had the bald head and the twirly hair going down around the ears ... it was kinda neat to see.
We had a pint in a local pub (they don't even serve food) but the locals enjoy their football games on Sunday pm! We then had lunch at a small local food place. Another weird thing we
found in that part of town were Palm trees - yes, palm trees. I have the picture to prove it (mostly because I couldn't believe it myself!!)

After we got back to the hotel, we unpacked then went out for dinner at a really nice Italian restaurant - there are a lot of theatres nearby, which also means a lot of places to eat! All in all, it was a very fine day!

The tulips are in full bloom

Francophone teachers will relate to this; I've got a few in my classes!!

The head piece worn by all the Jewish men we met in North London (not my picture - taken from Internet)
This is in North London!!! and they are real trees.

  1. Looks like nice weather in London. That guy looks pretty funny with that big fur hat. Do they wear that in the summer too? Hope you guys find something for next year. Have a blast. We are playing golf today down in Burlington. Hope it is a bit dryer than the place we went to last week... Our course opens next friday but it is still pretty cool weather. Can't wait for the nice weather. We do miss you guys too! Happy Easter!
